With the many kinds of foods available, it can sometimes be difficult to determine which food you should avoid with a stomach ulcer and which food you can eat. The trick is to keep your stomach healthy by avoiding the wrong food. Some foods may be more acidic to your stomach lining than others. 1). Alcoholic drinks

Beer: Beer is made from barley or wheat, making it rich in fiber and B vitamins. However, beer also contains hops, which increase the acidity of stomach fluids and delays stomach emptying. People with ulcers should avoid both regular and low-alcohol beer.

Wine: Red wine is known to benefit heart health by raising “good” HDL cholesterol levels and protecting against artery damage. Most people can safely consume red wine without increasing their risk of gastritis or gastric ulcers. White wine is more likely than red wine to increase stomach acid levels and delay stomach emptying, so people with gastritis or peptic ulcers should not consume it.

2). Carbonated drinks

Drinking carbonated drinks (soft drinks) is one of the food items to avoid if you have a stomach ulcer. The soda may not cause an ulcer, but it can worsen.

Soft drinks are acidic, and they contain caffeine, both of which can irritate your stomach by aggravating your ulcer.

When you’re having symptoms, carbonated beverages can be even worse than other acidic liquids like orange juice and tomato juice because they contain gas that can cause bloating and discomfort.

3). Avoid spicy food

Most people with ulcers find that spicy food aggravates their condition. You may be able to tolerate some spices, but others may irritate your stomach, causing increased pain and discomfort. Avoid spicy foods, such as hot peppers, salsa, and sauces. Seasonings such as curry and mustard may also cause problems for some people with stomach ulcers.

4). Avoid milk and milk products.

Milk might be good for strong bones, but it may not always be the best thing for your ulcer. Milk can cause your stomach to produce excess acid, which in turn can aggravate an ulcer. High-fat dairy products, such as whole milk and cream, may worsen symptoms. If you have an ulcer, try switching to low-fat dairy foods or non-dairy substitutes like soy milk.

5). Avoid fried foods

Theobromine is a chemical compound found in chocolate and cocoa products. It is similar to caffeine and has a similar effect on the body.

Chocolate’s adverse effects may occur because it causes relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), allowing the acid in the stomach to come back up into the esophagus.

It has also been suggested that chocolate can increase pain perception in gastric ulcers.

7). Avoid sugary food

Sugar can increase the production of stomach acid, which is what causes ulcers. If you have an ulcer, avoid foods high in sugar content.

8). Citrus fruits

Avoid citrus fruits, such as grapefruit and oranges. These are known to irritate the stomach lining and increase the likelihood of stomach acid reflux.

In conclusion, stay away from coffee and also peppermint. Sour food also aggravates stomach ulcers so much that we suggest avoiding it entirely. Generally, there is no need to worry about chocolates if you eat them in small amounts and eat more vegetables than fruits because vegetables are less acidic. 

Drinking plenty of fluids will help reduce the irritation in your stomach by diluting the stomach juices.
