National Association of Nigerian Students of South-West (NANS) has repeated its stand with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) amidst the incessant strike.

Students Union of South-West of Nigeria governed by Adegboye Olatunji, dissociated itself from what it depicted as a “reckless, inconsiderate and myopic statement” from some individuals trying to make Academics look like the sinner.

In a declaration approved by the NANS South-West Deputy Coordinator Alao John, on Saturday (March 5, 2022), he claimed that Nigerian Government should, rather, as a matter of urgency, yield to the memorandum of agreement (MOU) with Academics

John remarked that they (NANS Southwest) have had a discussion with the South-West zone of University Teachers and realised that the requests of the teachers are still the same.

“A careful analysis of the core cause of the ongoing industrial strike action by Academics (ASUU) in the course of the discussion, and a cursory look at the record of Academics strike actions in Nigeria indicates a remarkable resemblance in the demands of University teachers over time.

This also reflects how the second term of President General Muhammadu Buhari and other consecutive Federal Government administrations have failed to curb the infrastructural weakness and academic breakdown on our campuses.

Nigerian student body also retained students union would be holding any mass protest, it will be against the Nigerian Government and not Academics.

NANS South-West chapter is standing tall with lecturers and we are pragmatically willing to do a walk with University Lectuers” he expanded
