ASUU STRIKE: More than 170 Nigerian Catholic Bishops have advised the Federal Government of Nigeria to “quickly and permanently” resolve the dispute with the University teachers, known as (ASUU).
The priests, under the aegis of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Thursday (March 10, 2022) begged the federal government to maintain talks with Academics with a view to settling the dispute.
The Catholic Bishops were noted in a communique published in Abuja at the end of their first plenary and approved by Most Revds Augustine Akubeze and Camillus Umoh, the outgoing President and Secretary of CBCN saying that the recurring industrial disagreement and unjust conflict between the government and the leadership of ASUU was not satisfying the best interest of Nigerian students and that of the country.
According to the priests, the best possibility open to both parties (FG/ASUU) is dialogue to settle areas of dispute and equivocation in the interest of the all stakeholders and students.
They also acknowledged that public office holders have an essential role to play in providing good governance
