Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is holding its national convention to elect its new president and resolve its internal crisis, before finally electing a successor to President Muhammadu Buhari in this year’s elections. 2023.
According to reports, ahead of the APC convention, six party leaders withdrew from the race, backing their rival, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
Senator Adamu is reportedly the candidate backed by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
Hours before the APC convention, the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), filed a lawsuit in the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the APC constitution. demanded that her meeting be declared unconstitutional in Nigeria.
The PDP has also asked the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the APC registration.
In its lawsuit, the PDP claimed that the entire APC party system was unconstitutional.
