The Ukrainian government has announced the discovery of the bodies of nearly 300 people buried in a mass grave in Bucha, a town seized by Ukrainian forces from Russian forces during clashes between the two sides on Saturday.

Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk told the AFP news agency by telephone that 280 bodies had been found buried in the tomb, with more bodies lying on the city streets.

Earlier, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Maliar said that Ukrainian forces had regained control of Kyiv after weeks of Russian occupation.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister listed Irpin, Bucha, and Gostomel as well as all areas around Kyiv as having been recaptured by Russian forces.
