Imo: INEC Postpones Registration Exercise Over Killing of Staff

INEC-Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the ongoing Registration Exercise exercise in Ihitte-Uboma LG area in Imo State.

This was consequence to a report by Professor Emeka Ezeonu, the REC-Resident Electoral Commissioner to the impact that on Thursday, an official of the Imo State Electoral Commission, Mr. Nwokorie Anthony, affected in the continuous voters registration exercise, was shot dead by unknown terrorists at Nkwo Ihitte, Polling Unit 004 in Amakohia Ward [RA 02] of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area.

A declaration made accessible to the news correspondent in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja said the Resident Electoral Commissioner further announced that the State Commission was preparing activities to discover the location of the two remaining personnel affected in the enrollment exercise.

Prior to the happening, he stated the Commission had postponed the registration exercise in Njaba and Orsu LG areas of Imo State on report of insecurity while the activity was taking-place only at the INEC local government area office in Oru-West, Orlu, Oru-East and Ohaji Egbema LG areas of Imo State.
