Kenya has fired the head of French-owned energy company Rubis following a sharp rise in oil shortages, forcing people to line up at petrol stations.

Kenya’s energy ministry says Jean-Christian Bergeron has been fired for allegedly sabotaging Kenya’s economy by smuggling oil and exporting it at a time when the country is in dire need.

According to Kenya’s Home Affairs Minister Monica Juma during a press conference, the official has left Kenya and the authorities will take immediate action to address the issue

Rubis has denied allegations that it is raising oil prices in Kenya.
