The bodyguards of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) militants were killed on Saturday in an attack on a checkpoint in southeastern Iran.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency says the attack took place in Sistan-Baluchistan, a province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, which has been the scene of frequent attacks or clashes between security forces and armed groups. in it.

The slain security guard, Mahmoud Absalan, son of General Parviz Absalan, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the region, has been identified.

Iranian security forces have already arrested the attackers.

The impoverished province of Sistan-Baluchistan has long been a hotbed of clashes with smuggling groups, as well as separatists from Iran’s Baluchi minority and extremist groups.
