MASSOB demands release of Kanu, Igbo Presidency during Buhari’s visit to Ebonyi
MASSOB has called on Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed IPOB.
MASSOB made the call as Buhari prepares to embark on a two-day visit to the southeastern state of Ebonyi from Thursday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, MASSOB President Uchenna Madu also called for the Igbo to be allowed to run for the presidency of Nigeria in the 2023 general election, in addition to the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu was arrested and charged with terrorism and treason, allegations he denies.
Following the formation of the court-sanctioned IPOB, its militants have carried out a series of attacks on security agencies, government institutions and dignitaries following the arrest of their leader, Mr Kanu Nnamdi Kanu, by security forces.
Commenting on the situation, MASSOB leader Madu said they were not opposed to the president’s visit to their south-eastern region, but stressed that the release of Mr. Kanu would calm the situation. area.
