11,000 nurses leave Nigeria within 3 years

The Nigeria Medical and Midwifery Association says it has lost more than 11,000 members who left the country to developed countries in the last three years for a better life.

Union President Michael Nnachi made the remarks at the World Medical Workers’ Week celebration, linking the problem to poor working conditions and suffering from cholera outbreaks.

Nnachi, who said at least 5,000 such workers had lost their lives worldwide due to the 2020 cholera plague, stated Nigeria was grieving from a scarcity of medical staff.

He called on the Nigerian government to restructure the project so that its members can no longer flee to developed countries for a better life.
