Guinea has launched an investigation into allegations that former President Alpha Conde and his top aides were involved in killings, torture, kidnappings, robberies and rapes.

Prosecutors in Conakry have announced the launch of the probe, according to the French news agency Agence France-Presse.

Reports say the crimes were committed before a referendum used by President Conde to change the constitution and hold elections in March 2020 which he said allowed him to run for a third term

Other suspects along with the former president include his former prime minister Ibrahim Kassory Fofana and former defense minister Mohammed Diane and other senior officials.
