Sultan of Sokoto condemns killing of a Sokoto student

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar, has condemned the killing of a Sokoto college School student who was accused of insulting the Allah Prophet.

A statement released by the Emir’s Palace, approved by Saidu Muhammadu Maccido, the Emirate’s Secretary and Danburan Sokoto, condemned the killing and called on the security mechanisms to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The Emirate urges the people of Sokoto and the country as a whole to maintain peace among themselves, while the security forces continue their work.

The Sokoto State Government has already announced the closure of the College and an investigation is underway, Information Commissioner Isa Bajini Galadanci confirmed to RFI Hausa.

Deborah College student was reportedly beaten and set on fire by angry students for allegedly violating Islam.

One of the college students said Deborah had spoken out on a social media site, sparking an altercation.

The murder is currently being debated on social media, with people expressing differing views on the killing.

The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the killings.
