Muhammadu Buhari (Retd), the Nigeria President has ordered Godwin Emifiele, the Central Bank Governor to resign from office following his declaration of his intention to contest in the 2023 elections
According to reports, Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of Nigeria has submitted the proposal to all administration officials and ministers, including Emifiele.
President Buhari’s letter states that ministers, heads of state and ambassadors, in addition to political office bearers, must resign immediately by May 16.
Emefiele has been embroiled in controversy since a series of scandals erupted after a coalition of organizations put up money and purchased him a form to contest in 2023 general elections under the ruling APC.
Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is one of the leading critics of Emefiele, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to remove the Central Bank governor by force if he refuses to step down as required.
Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has demanded the arrest of Emefiele, who it said was unconstitutional.
Three of the nine ministers who have announced their intention to run have already announced their resignations
