Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic scholar, has advised the Nigerian government to pay a ransom to the 62 abducted Abuja-Kaduna train passengers.
He made the remarks during a special prayer service organized by the Northern Women’s Party for the hostages.
On March 28, bandits mounted a train carrying passengers en route to Kaduna from Abuja.
Gumi explained politicians were taking more than 25 million naira to buy tickets, rather than paying ransom to safeguard the captives.
In his remarks, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Joseph Hayab, questioned the authorities to take the essential efforts to ensure the return of the hostages
