Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum has reiterated his call for jihadist militants during a visit to the south-west of the country, saying the door is open for such fighters

In front of a large crowd of Torodi people, near the country’s border with Burkina Faso, President Bazoum said he had repeatedly called on terrorists in the name of Allah to leave a useless life that would not benefit them at all.

He said if they renounced terrorism, the authorities would welcome them into the community and provide them with jobs to ensure their economic development, expressing hope that they would listen to him.

At the end of February, Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum announced that he had begun talks with his countrymen in the Islamic State group in a bid to find peace.
