The agency for Drug Boss, Mohamed Marwa has proposed drug test for members of NYSC when they resume at various camp across the country for a year National service.

The Agency Chief explained that the step is part of it effort to battle drug abuse.

Marwa made this known to the public in a circular published on Wednesday (June 8) at the Agecy headquarters in Abuja while receiving Gen. Mohammed Fadah, the NYSC DG and other management committee.

He explained, “There is the need for drug test for members of our youth corps as they enter at the orientation camps.

“Once they are aware of drug test at the camps, they will resist from it. The whole essence is to secure help brings to those who test positive early. This is part of our fight Against Drug Abuse initiative.

We have a drug problem. We are determined to assure this is reversed but we can’t do it alone, we need institutions like NYSC to lessen and regulate need for drugs. Nigeria has inadequate counselling centres and rehabilitation. We need counselling centres in the health care centres at the grass level, where we don’t have adequate workforce to cover and this is where male and female of NYSC come in.

The members of corps can be trained as counsellors at the local level to help those drug users

NYSC-DG explained he stopped in on a courtesy visit to applaud the actions of the agency and also seek assistance as orientation camps ready to admit new youth corps members.
