June 12: Kogi Assembly Speaker Felicitates Gov. Bello, Pays Special Tribute to Democracy Heroes
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf has felicitated Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on the occasion of 2023 Democracy Day.
In a message made available by his media office, the speaker applauded the Governor for his commitment to democracy, development of the entire state, and evolution of social changes and enhanced infrastructure across the entire state.
The Speaker, while calling on Kogi citizens to continue to support the Governor and government in all policies and programmes aimed at developing the state, noted the need for unity of direction to ensure the realisation of tenets of the New Direction Blueprint.
The Speaker who promised to ensure a more robust executive – legislative cooperation under his leadership, promised to ensure people – centred legislations under his reign as the speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly.

He urged the people to reflect on the sacrifices of former political leaders in Kogi State for the sacrifices made to nurture democracy to where it currently is, and enjoined the people continue to tolerate one another to ensure unity of purpose and direction for the growth of the entire state.
He urged the people not to allow tribal and religious division among them, and told them to stay focused to the ideals of democracy, which is freedom of choice and association.
“Democracy is not a generally rosy system. You would understand this if you have the knowledge of many years of discomfort endured by many elder statesmen, some of who paid the ultimate price for us to enjoy the system as it is.
“Within Kogi State, people like Late Prince Abubakar Audu, Steven Achema, Stephen Olorunfemi, A.T Ahmed, Alhaji Etudaiye, and others also paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure democracy is sustained.
“Other leaders such as former Governors of the state, senators and others have also done their bits and as such, we must give them the regard they deserve, even as we celebrate democracy today.”
