Edo PDP Guber aspirant, Yakubu describes Koko Junction accident as monumental disaster
A former Chairman of Esan North East Local Government Hon John Yakubu has described the recent Koko Junction accident in which scores of fellow Nigerians were burnt to dead, as a monumental disaster that was avoidable, if governments were alive to their responsibilities.
He regrets that there will be no end to such avoidable disaster, if governments at both the federal and state levels do not live up to their responsibilities to make our highways safe for travelling. He said that despite the endless cries of the citizens about the poor state of federal roads in Edo and Delta States, nothing has been done to fix them.
He suggested that federal roads be handed over to the state governments as they are in a better position to manage them since they are closer to them than Abuja.
He said that with adequate funding the states will do a better job of keeping them safe for motoring.
He lamented that despite the clear danger scooping of petrol from fallen trailers pose, citizens still take the risk to scoop for fuel due to poverty.
Hon Yakubu who is a PDP 2024 Edo Governorship aspirant promised that if elected governor, the fight to eradicate poverty and help restore the peoples dignity will be one of cardinal programmes
He commiserated with the families who lost dear ones in the accident and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims.
He also wished the injured ones speedy recovery.
