Kogi Guber: SDP Urges Security agencies to monitor Hotels as suspected thugs invade Kogi.
IDRIS AHMED, Lokoja.
Social Democratic Party (SDP), Governorship Campaign Council, Kogi state, has urged security agencies to monitor all the hotels in the state to checkmate the influx of thugs into the state before, during and after the November 11 election.
Chairman Kogi State SDP Governorship Campaign Council, Colonel Ahmed Suleiman Babanawa (RTD), made the call on Thursday in Lokoja while responding to questions from Journalists on the security situation in view of the upcoming off cycle election.
He expressed doubt on the sincerity of booking of all the hotel accommodations across the 21 local government areas of the state by the government, pointing out that they may be used as camps for thugs, election riggers and manipulations.
The SDP Campaign Council Chairman said that the APC is bent on causing trouble during the election and therefore booked all the hotels accommodations across the state to frustrate the observers and other relevant agencies from monitoring the conduct of the election.
He advised the eligible voters resident outside the state should not be discouraged by the planned obstacles placed on their ways to their bonafide abodes and polling units.
The Campaign Council Chairman appealed to the people of Kogi state to accommodate the people coming home for election as they are all brothers and sisters, despite religious or ethnic backgrounds.
According to Col. Babanawa, the SDP is very vigilant and ready to cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information at all times throughout the process of the election in the state.
He however warned SDP loyalists not to engage in any unlawful activities throughout the period of the election, assuring that the security agencies are very much on ground to deal with trouble makers.
While urging the security operatives to act professionally in the course of their assignment, Col. Babanawa, who is a Security expert advised the voters to maintain peace and tranquility throughout the period of the election.
The Campaign Council Chairman expressed disappointment in the All Progressives Congress APC for its clandestine moves to get the leadership of the Social Democratic Party SDP as well as Stakeholders arrested before on trumped up charges of terrorism.
Col. Babanawa described the idea of caging political opponents before election as acts of cowardice, advising the ruling party to concentrate on campaigns instead of seeking shortcut to retain power.
He urged all security, legal and agencies as well as people of goodwill to resist the undemocratic moves of the APC to acquire power by use of government agencies, authorities and brute force.
Col. Babanawa appealed to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to issue urgent directives to the relevant security agencies to stay clear of the plans by the APC to truncate the upcoming democratic election.
