Former Kogi NUT Publicity Secretary Oyewor appeals to Govt. to upward review pension, gratuity of retirees
Government’s at all levels have been urged to work towards an upward review of pension and gratuity of retirees.
The immediate past Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kogi State wing Publicity Secretary, Comrade Idris Mohammed Oyewor made the appealed while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja, the State capital.
Comrade Idris who is also a member of the Retirement Counselling of Nigeria, said the economic realities in Nigeria demands special consideration for senior citizens to make them cope with expenses amidst of rising inflation.
According to him, very many of retirees are finding it hard to survive particularly those who retired before relativity and living wage salary increment.
” Those categories of retirees are really suffering to be candid. I mean those who retire before relativity and living wage salary increment. Government and organised labour needs to look into that direction. We are all operating the same market, with inflation at the roof top, only a few of them can cope.
Retirees are dieing in numbers. They had served the country, state, local government as the case may be, they deserves honour. It is a just cause because all currently in service would one day retire and might face the same challenges”.
He urged organized labour remember the situation when pressing home their demands, saying all workers hope for a better and more productive Retirement.
