Kogi Acting GM, Sanitation and waste management board, James Olufemi advocate new policies

The Acting General Manager, Sanitation and Waste Management Board, Sanitarian Ajayi James Olufemi has called for new policies to consolidate on the remarkable efforts of the immediate past Governor of the State Alhaji Yahaya Bello in the aspect of Sanitation and Waste Management.

Sanitarian Olufemi who made the call while speaking with newsmen in Lokoja said the habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately must be discouraged in modern society.

He expressed disappointment at those who dump refuse at the road divide which according to him could dent the image of the state to those arriving at the state capital for the first time.

His words ” Kogi is the gate way to about nine states of the Federation including the Federal capital territory. The way you are is the way you will be addressed. If we did not maintain cleanliness in our day to day living, it could send a bad signal to visitors and those passing by”.

The Acting General Manager called for periodic sensitization of people on the need to maintain decorum in the aspect of Sanitation and Waste Management.

He said consultants have been contacted to contribute their quota to the board, emphasising that mobile court will soon be established to penalised offenders of sanitation laws.

Sanitarian Olufemi however appealed for an improvement in staff strength, operational vehicles and other logistics to make the board function adequately.

On Saturday’s sanitation exercise, the Acting General Manager emphasised that the idea is a welcome development if revisited and observed.

 

While congratulating the Governor and the members of his cabinet on their swearing in, the Acting General Manager whished them a successful tenure.
