Basic Military Training, also known as an intense boot camp in some countries, is a requirement for all new enlisted recruits to form a strong formidable force in any country in defence of the country and its people.

The South African Air Force Gymnasium which serves under the leadership and command of Colonel Mokibelo Jerry Magana, is mandated and charged with the responsibility to transform civilians into soldiers by means of providing Basic Military Training to all recruits joining the South African Air Force, with the view to be handed over to the South African National Defence Force for future utilisation in service of the country.

Welcoming 359 recruits at the South African Air Force Gymnasium main hall recently, was Colonel Mokibelo Jerry Magana, who extended his heartfelt congratulations to the recruits for the choice they have made in pursuing a career of service in the South African Air Force.

“In taking a decision to join the South African National Defence Force, you have accepted the highest call to duty any citizen can ever take. You have accepted to abide by the rules of war, the code of conduct for the uniformed members of the South African National Defence Force, and by the requirements of exceptional accepted standard and discipline of the South Africa National Defence Force,” stated Colonel Magana.

“It is a requirement for you to undergo this training with the objective of preparing you to cope in all elements of service required by the South African National Defence Force. During training, it is expected of you to remain physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally fit, as this would help you with the basic tools necessary to perform the roles that will be assigned to you on completion of your training,” he said.

Lieutenant Bianca Mokone, the Course Commander, said that on completion of their course, the recruits are going to be utilised in various positions some as Pilots, Engineers, Air Traffic Controllers, Fire Fighters, Technicians, Military Police, Human Resource Clerks, Supply Support Clerks and many more.
