Mrs. Otti condemned the discovery of baby factory in Abia state

The wife of Abia state Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, says that she was deeply saddened at yet another discovery of baby factory in Aba, Abia state.

The Governor’s wife noted that on the month when the world is celebrating the remarkable achievements of the women folks, it is disheartening to learn about unscrupulous elements who goes about exploiting young girls for financial benefits thereby destroying their future.

“We love our women, we want them to thrive, we want them to reach their potentials, therefore we totally condemned this act, it is against any societal moral compass and most importantly it is illegal”

“We vehemently condemned the appalling existence of baby factories in Abia state where young girls were raped, forced into pregnancy and have their babies forcefully taken away from them for profits”

Mrs. Otti expressed that this practice endangers our young girls exposing them to sexually transmitted diseases.

According to her, ” this individuals exploit the poor economic vulnerabilities of our young girls and poor education to lure them into the nefarious act” she said.

Recognising the challenge, the Governor’s wife has committed to training young girls in skills acquisition and empowering them to start their own businesses.

She also revealed that the victims of the baby factory will be taken care of until they deliver their babies but sound a note of warning to those engaged in the act to desist, live the state or wait for the full weight of the law.

Recall that sixteen women who were in various stages of pregnancy was rescued by the Rapid Response Squad of Abia State Police Command.

They were rescued on March 7, 2024 following credible intelligence gathered by the Rapid Response Unit about the notorious activities going on at the baby factory in Aba.

The Public Relations Officer of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, who briefed newsmen at the Police headquarters in Umuahia, while parading the rescued women and their children, alongside two suspects, said a total of 16 pregnant girls and eight children were rescued.

She noted that the eight children were five males and three females.

She said that two suspects, Onyinyechi Okoro from Ihechiowa (F), Arochukwu LGA who is 29 years and one Ekene Okezie (M) from Arondizuogu, Imo State, were also nabbed at the baby factory.

The police spokesperson pointed out that discreet investigation is already ongoing on the matter.

The Command advised the Abia public to be security conscious by reporting any suspicious person or activities around them, assuring that they are committed to securing the safety and security of law-abiding residents of the state.
