2. GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDACY AND ELECTION:

👉Akume entered politics with a vision for addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Benue State.

👉He campaigned for the governorship of Benue State on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 1999 elections.

✔️He Left us with numerous asphalted roads and expanded Makurdi by opening many outlets with road to communities.

✔️He gave Benue people houses via housing scheme like Judges Quarters, BIPC North Bank, BIPC Nyiman, Owner Occupier,Ankpa quarters. All these houses were contracted to Benue indigens thereby creating financial wealth in the economy of benue.

✔️He build a gigantic water reservoir opposite Makafa part. Initiated and laid the foundation & ground work for the greater Makurdi water works in partnership with the Federal government.

He gave employment to thousands of youths, empowered both the young and the old. Everyone is somebody before him and he is for everybody irrespective of tribe or religion.

He takes you from a nobody and makes you a somebody to give you that sense of belonging.

Every name in the political atmosphere in Benue State has a touch of his blessings in one way or the other via basic amenities, infrastructural developments and rehabilitation.

HEALTHCARE AND EDUCATION:

👉Significant investments were made in healthcare infrastructure, including the establishment of 8 general hospitals across 8 local government areas, ensuring improved access to medical services.

✔️ Initiated and completed new eight 8️⃣ General Hospitals where they were not existing.

✔️ These general hospitals are situated in North Bank Makurdi, Oju, Gbajimba, Ugba, Wannune, Naka, Obarike Ito and Ohimini.

The old ones were also renovated.

✔️ Akume also upgraded some primary Health facilities to comprehensive Healthcare status across the state with one at Waapera in Ushongo Local Government.

✔️ The Administration equally initiated and completed the gigantic College of Health Sciences at the Benue State University Makurdi.

✔️ Akume’s Government further initiated and constructed Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

✔️ Akume also renovated the School of Nursing and midwifery Makurdi and ensured their sustainability accreditation.

✔️ It must be forgotten that it was the same Akume Administration that provided land for the permanent site of Federal Medical Centre, Apir.

👉Education received attention through initiatives such as the relocation of Government Day Secondary School to its permanent site, allowing for the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine of the Benue State University on the land previously occupied by the school.

👉Salaries of teachers were consistently paid, and efforts were made to enhance the quality of education at all levels.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT:

👉Akume’s administration embarked on large-scale infrastructure projects, including road construction, erosion control, and water supply schemes.

👉Efforts were made to beautify urban areas, with the development of highbrow areas in Makurdi like the Owners’ Occupier and the Judges’ Quarters residential areas.
