says the institution has set up investigating committee on the death of 2 students while 7 others injured as a result of stampede during palliative distribution in the institution on Friday, March 22, 2024.

Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, the Vice Chancellor of the University stated this while receiving members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology ,who were on condolences to the university in Keffi today.

The VC said that it was unfortunate that two students lost their lives while 7 others hospitalized over stampede during palliative distribution in the institution.

” During the palliative distribution, two students died and 7 hospitalized. Out of the 7 students hospitalized, 4 were discharged and 3 are responding to treatment,” he said.

 

He appreciated the assembly for identifying with the university over the unfortunate incident and prayed God to bless them abundantly.

The VC also used the medium to appreciate the House for giving him the maximum cooperation and support to succeed.

” What we have achieved will not be possible without the support of you and the House in general,” he said.

Earlier, Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology said that the condolence visit was to sympathize with the university over the death of two students and others who were injured during palliative distribution in the institution.

” The Rt. Hon Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has directed us to come and condole with the institution over the sad incident.

” On Friday, 22nd March, 2024, the focus of the entire nation was on the State University over the unfortunate death of two female students as a result of stampede at the convocation ground where palliatives from Nasarawa State Government meant for the students was set.

” The incident was quite unfortunate and disheartening .The thought and prayers of the Rt. Hon Speaker, Principal Officers, Hon members and indeed members of the committee on Education, Science and Technology are with you,” he said

Rt. Hon. Abel, who is the Deputy Majority Leader prayed God to condole the university community and the immediate families of the deceased students.

” We also pray that those students traumatized and suffering from various degree of injuries receive their healing, wishing that such scenario does not happen again,” he said.

The Deputy Majority Leader used the medium to assure the university of the House readiness to continue to prioritize the education sector in the state.
