ALIA IS THE WORST GOVERNOR IN NIGERIA UNDER TINUBU’S NAIRA RAIN ERA
The Governor of Benue State Hyacinth Alia recently bought 400 android phones and gave to jobless young people in the state and also gave them stipends for data to insult anyone who criticizes his government. He recruited hundreds of others as thugs and has armed them to be harassing and intimidating his political opponents The group of youths whom he recruited for social media and that of thugs have been on rampage attacking anyone who mentions the governor’s name in disapproval.
Governor Alia himself has often threatened to cut the finger of anybody who dares to speak out about his poor performance despite receiving huge amounts of money from FAAC – about N30 billion every month for state and local governments since May 2023 when President Tinubu removed fuel subsidy. And he gives no accountability for the spending of public funds. Alia runs Benue like a church parish where priests are not audited or even questioned over expenditure of funds.
Alia and his praise singers are always quick to declare that he is working so hard, but they fail to show what he is doing aside the short streets which none is up to the length of half a kilometer. The underpasses which he started at High Level in Makurdi and Gyado junction in Gboko are getting to two years without any hope of completion any time soon.
Many people in Benue State have been deceived by Alia to believe that his government installed the street lights in Makurdi and purchased buses for Benue Links Ltd. But the truth is that the street lights are federal government projects, the same way the buses were purchased as part of palliatives from the federal government to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Little wonder that the church suspended this man more than once. His fake healing masses too failed to heal anyone because they were all arranged to deceive and dupe the poor unsuspecting people.
Governor Alia thinks that everyone is a moron so he can continue to deceive the public. When this man was campaigning, he promised to clear the arrears of salaries and gratuities, but it is almost two years into his tenure and he has failed to keep his promise, the same way he failed the internally displaced people (IDPs) who are in camps that he will return them to their ancestral homes within his first 100 days in office.
Alia is receiving monumental allocations from the federation’s account with nothing to show for it. The Chairman of BIRS revealed the other day that the board under him is generating a minimum of N2 billion every month for Governor Alia.
He Alia himself announced during the 2025 budget presentation that the state Bureau of International Cooperation and Development has received grants from donors, totalling N85 billion. What is the governor doing with all such voluminous money?
Network For Transparent Governance (NTG) challenges governor Alia to tell Benue people which major project he has started and completed in the last two years. We also challenge the governor to give account of his two years in office and tell Benue people what he has been doing with their money.
The only projects governor Alia has started and completed is the purchase of his private jet, a Bombardier Challenger 850 at the cost of N11.2 billion, as well as the numerous private houses he has bought for himself and his women in different parts of the world within a short time in office.
