APC secures Reps seat in Cross River

Jude Ngaji, the candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress in the bye-election for the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, has been declared the winner of the poll held on Saturday.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Independent National Electoral Commission pronounced him the election’s victor.

Mike Usibe, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, was beaten by Ngaji by a margin of 22, 778 votes. The candidate for the PDP received 20,590 votes.

Also on Sunday morning, the byelection for the Akpabuyo State Constituency in Cross River State came to a close, with the PDP candidate obtaining the seat in the House of Assembly.

A total of 5,866 votes separated Ekeng Edet of the PDP from Bassey Effiom of the APC. Effiom.

As the Returning Officer, John Eno, announced that Ngaji was the winner, he noted that the APC candidate had received more votes than Usibe and was therefore chosen as the Federal Constituency’s representative.

The Ogoja/Yala Federal seat fell empty when Agom Jarigbe, a former member of the House of Representatives, was elected to the Senate last year, vacating his position in the House of Representatives.

An election to fill the vacancy left by the death of a member of the House of Assembly, Elizabeth Ironbar, in the Akpabuyo State Constituency prompted the holding of the bye-election.
