UK concedes to list IPOB/MASSOB as a Terrorist Organization

The British government has changed its position on the Indigenous People’s Organization of Biafra (IPOB), agreeing to list it as a terrorist organization by the Nigerian government

In a draft resolution granting asylum in May, the UK government removed IPOB members from the UK.

In April 2021, it was reported in the media that the UK was planning to grant asylum to members of the separatist IPOB, as part of its policy on refugees. time.

But a few days after the draft was published, it was canceled by the British government, following complaints from its Nigerian counterpart.

In its draft policy, the British government has declared IPOB a terrorist organization, which will be excluded from its asylum program as a result of its involvement in murders and chaos in southeast region in Nigeria.

The policy also states that anyone who is excluded from the list of eligible asylum seekers is certainly not one of those who will receive humanitarian protection.

The gunmen, believed to be members of the IPOB, have intensified their atrocities in southeastern Nigeria in recent times.
