Ukraine has vowed to continue fighting until the situation in Mariupol is resolved after Russia’s deadline for the remaining troops in the city surrenders as Moscow seeks a major victory.

Hours after the Russian deadline expired, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said “they still control the port city in the southeast of the country.

Russia’s Defense Ministry says there are 400 mercenaries in the besieged Azovstal steel plant, calling on Ukrainian troops “to lay down their arms and surrender to save their lives.”

However, Moscow claims that Ukraine has ordered patriotic Azov fighters to “shoot” any soldier who wants to surrender.
